Special Events
This year for Gaelcon’s 22nd and we’d like to do something special. So we re-instated the position of Special Events. Then we decided we’d like a lot of special events, so we asked every committee member to come up with their own special event, based on their area of expertise. We also asked a few of Gaelcon’s valued contributors of the past few years to contribute an event, too.
The details of these events are yet to be confirmed, but expect to see big, spectacular games and events running throughout the con. If you see giant model robots, flying battle standards or wargames spread across large swathes of the floor, that’s probably a special event, and you should pop over and see if you can join in!
This year we also plan on holding a Costume Contest on Saturday at Gaelcon. We would like anyone who feels adventurous enough to come up with a costume for the convention, whatever the genre, to come along and be in the running for a prize. The only restriction is that the costume must be suitable for view by all ages: no nekkidness! At 5pm on Saturday, we will be judging both the 16's and under Geekiest Kid Award and the 17's and over Costume Award. Finally; this year we have an awful lot of slots going. By my calculations there are up to 48 hours of organised games to be played at the con. There may be more. So, we’ve come up with the “Gamer of Steel” prize for the gamer who lasts the longest. Whoever spends the most time playing games at Gaelcon, wins. Only scheduled games (this includes special events) count, so we can keep a track of things and post a leaderboard. In the event of a tie, the gamer who has played the most types of games (RPG, LARP, Wargame, CCG etc) wins.
