An introduction to Gaelcon

image

Gaelcon is Ireland’s largest gaming convention, and takes place over three days on the October bank holiday weekend. And by gaming, we don’t mean gambling or betting of any kind. Gaelcon is attended by people who play games for the sheer love of it. Card games, computer games, console games, board games, role playing games, strategy games… you name it, we play it. Created and run by the Irish Games Association (IGA)Gaelcon has run every year since 1989 and has gotten larger and more successful with each passing year. We attract an average of 450 attendees, from all over Ireland, the UK, Europe and America.

Why should I trade at Gaelcon?

Quite simply, because there is no larger collection of captive gamers anywhere else in Ireland, at any time. This year Gaelcon is being hosted in the Ballroom of the prestigious D4 Ballsbridge Inn hotel. As shown in the map on the next page, this gives us a fantastic opportunity to create a number of large trade stands, which can be strategically placed in eye-catching locations around the hall. Gaelcon is the premier gaming event in the country – people travel huge distances to play games and buy gaming goods from traders that they would otherwise not get the chance to visit.

Not only that, this year our trade space is more reasonable than it has been in the history of the Convention. The IGA truly wants to make Gaelcon a profitable experience for all of the traders – so we are offering our retail areas for extremely low prices.

What do Gamers buy?

Apart from games and related items, there is a huge variety of gaming lifestyle products that Gamers purchase. Energy food and drinks; branded t-shirts and clothing; toys and replica weaponry; computer and technology gadgets; books, comics, music and movies… the list goes on.

Trade Space

The IGA is offering two types of trade space at Gaelcon: stalls and islands. Trade stalls run along the walls of the Ballroom. Frontage is priced at 50 euro per metre, which includes 2 metres of space between the trade table and the wall. Trade islands are free-standing, rectangular stands in the main area of the Ballroom. Frontage is purchased at 50 euro per metre of frontage along the long side of the rectangle – the short sides come free! The Prestige Island, which is the first trade spot that attendees will see as they enter the hall, is priced at 75 euro per metre.

Demo Games and Contact

The IGA is offering a further discount on trade space for traders who wish to run games. For every gaming event a trader runs during Gaelcon, they will be given one metre of trade space free. So if a trader were to purchase 4 metres of stall trade space, and run two games, the total cost would only be 100 euro! These games must be agreed upon with the IGA beforehand.
